On Sunday I will be serving as Troubadour for a “Walk against Domestic Violence” in Brimfield MA on the Commons. This task force has adopted my song, “Calm Before The Storm” (www.jimparadis.com) as their theme song, so I will be playing that song to open the ceremony, then some more music between 2:00 and 3:30. So if you are up in that area, please come by and support the work of this task force to put an end to domestic violence.

Always up for a road trip and this weekend was a blast. Started off by staying in Hopewell NJ Thursday night at Deb’s brother’s house so we could get a jump on VA in the morning. Dinner at Nomad Pizza Co. in Hopewell, family friends of Deb and her brother. Awesome organic pizza if you ever get down that way! http://www.nomadpizzaco.com/
Got to Hampton VA Friday where our room was. Virginia Beach was about 45 minutes away and we went down that night to the Convention Center to pick up our race packet. We met Jeff and his sister for dinner.
Saturday morning we went to VB and ran 3 miles on the beach to stretch our legs. The weather was unbelievable and afterwards we swam and body surfed in the ocean, rip tides and all, thank you Earl.

The 1/2 Marathon was really awesome, I loved every minute of it! I finished, and without injury, so I achieved my goal.
They lined everyone up in corrals according to their estimated finish time and we watched the sun rise in front of us as we were waiting for our turn to be released. There were 27 corrals and about 18,000 runners.
The support along the route was non stop, between the bands, cheerleaders from local high schools, and the towns people. There were a few Elvis' running which was fun to see. Got a second wind at mile 10, although it was short-lived… At the finish we were showered with food, drink, iced towels, popsicles, etc. and then down to the beach. Wow!

5K for Africa! Please help

This is my second annual fundraiser for the children in Gulu, Uganda.
My wonderful, brave nephew Adam went to Uganda as a missionary in 2007 through Action International
and sent home stories of the children and what their life was like there. The faces of the children really made a lasting impression on my heart and my family and I needed to try to help in some way.

Last year we raised $400.00, which was wonderful as the dollar goes a very long way in Uganda! My goal this year is to double that.

This year I am running the Virginia Beach Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon on September 5th for the children in Gulu. I am a relatively new runner and it is hard for me every time I go out. Running does not come naturally to me and I am not fast, but I am motivated. Rain or shine, 90 degrees or 15 degrees, I am out there with this goal in mind.

Here are several of the ministries that the money will go towards:
Home of Love Orphanage of 60 children
School fees for approx. 200 children
A new elementary school is in the process of being built
Ministry to children with HIV/Aids
